Focus Group: Research-Creation (RDM Strategy)

Focus Group: Research-Creation (RDM Strategy) Online

As part of our RDM Strategy, this Focus Group will address Research-Creation. Focus groups are intended to gather information from researchers whose data requires specific supports for care, management, or sharing. We want to ensure the strategy as written will support and include these research areas.

Research Data Management (RDM) Services and Institutional Strategy Working Group are inviting feedback on our Draft RDM Institutional Strategy from faculty, graduate students, research staff, and other McMaster researchers across disciplines. In March 2021, CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC released the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy to advance Canadian research excellence and ensure that publicly funded research is supported by sound RDM and data stewardship practices. Each postsecondary institution eligible to administer Tri-Agency funds is required to develop an institutional RDM strategy that outlines “…how the institution will provide its researchers with an environment that enables and supports RDM.”  Upcoming requirements for researchers will include data management plans (DMPs) and data deposit.

Research Data Management (RDM) refers to a set of practices and activities that include the planning, collection, documentation, storage, preservation, and sharing of research data. Good RDM practices help to increase research visibility and build new collaborations, enable verification of research results, and support a culture of reproducible research.

RDM Services at McMaster University provides several resources, including personal support, to assist researchers on campus with a variety of RDM processes. Learn more at https://rdm.mcmaster.ca/.
