Lucy Catherine Russell was the granddaughter of Bertrand Russell. She is best known for her tragic death at the age of 26, but her papers contain a wealth of information about the life of a young woman developing and negotiating her ideas about the world in the presence of her famous forebearer, Bertrand Russell. This exhibit, curated by Gillian Dunks, the archivist responsible for processing Lucy’s papers, features excerpts from Lucy’s correspondence, diaries, and artwork.

Transformative Stories: Year of Gender and Justice is presented by McMaster University Library in collaboration with campus and community partners and will feature a lineup of free, public programming from fall 2023 through summer 2024.
